Statement: I would listen to and voice the views of young people in Preseli
Pembrokeshire and the rest of Wales, ensuring their opinions are heard by
decision makers in government. I will consult with people in my area through
in-person discussions (if permitted), or online meetings; and digitally, such
as surveys.
Being on my
school council for two years has given me skills that would be useful in the
Welsh Youth Parliament. I enjoy having discussions and debates, often gathering
students' opinions to help inform school decisions.
We need to
tackle gender stereotypes everywhere, but a vital part of this should happen in
our schools. We must ensure that a history of unequal sporting opportunities is
not repeated in our education settings.
Empowering
young people to take more control over what they study is vital in allowing
them to fulfill their potential and take ownership of their futures. Only a few
subjects studied up to KS4 are chosen by students; whilst I believe in a broad
curriculum, compulsory GCSEs often prevent pupils studying subjects of more
interest to them. It's time that learners have more freedom over what we study;
it will impact us the most.
