Biography

Jonathon was a Member of the first Welsh Youth Parliament from 2018 to 2021.

The following was his candidate statement for election to the first Welsh Youth Parliament:

My key issues are:

  • Transport-Low cost for young people
  • Health-healthy eating and sports funding
  • Environment-reducing waste including plastics

My name is Jonathon Dawes; I am 15 years old, in Year 11 and head boy at Rhyl High. For my work in the community and tennis I have won various awards including the Tennis Wales Young Volunteer of the year, Rhyl Mayors award, Denbighshire Sports award and I have been awarded a Millennium Volunteers award. I have lived in the Vale of Clwyd my entire life and feel I am the perfect person to represent you in Parliament especially with the skills I have gained from my tennis and various other roles.

I am standing because I want to make a difference to the lives of young people. I am hard working, passionate about the community and politics. If elected you can get in contact with me on social media or come to one of my monthly surgeries, to raise your concerns, and I will personally hear your views.

My three main priorities are...  Low cost transport for young people  More funding in sport and healthy eating  Protect our environment by tackling our plastics issues  These issues are important to young people. Thanks for reading and I hope you vote for me to be your new MWYP.
